Rok Islands

The Rok Island group consists of 2 small and uninhabited islands about 100 km south-east of Phuket. These are classic tropical islands: pristine white sandy beaches and lush green vegetation, surrounded by coral reefs in crystal clear water. Also, the extensive coral reef system is teeming with coral and fish. Read more here.

Haa Islands

The Haa Island group consists of five islands; the name is quite logical since “Haa” means “five” in the Thai language. The islands are situated about 60 km south-east of Phuket. It is also quite near Koh Lanta and therefore Koh Haa is part of the Mu Koh Lanta National Park. The largest island in the group, Koh Haa Yai, has a spectacular white sandy beach, located between two sets of rocks. The beach slopes gently down into a shallow lagoon. The lagoon is in the center of three of the islands and has crystal clear turquoise water. As a result, this offers excellent protection from wind and waves, making snorkeling and diving very easy.

Rok Islands

The beautiful Rok Island group consists of 2 small and uninhabited islands and are located about 100 km south-east of Phuket and about 30 km south of Koh Lanta. The islands are Koh Rok Nai and Koh Rok Nork. “Noi” is Thai for ‘inside’ or ‘inner’ and “Nork” or “Nok” translates to ‘outside’ or ‘outer’.
They are pristine small islands with white sandy beaches and an extensive coral reef system that is home to an abundance of corals and fishes. Snorkelers and divers often encounter sea turtles, moray eels and black-tip reef sharks. Giant clams are common in the waters of Koh Rok.
The Rok island group is part of the Mu Koh Lanta Marine National Park and tours to the islands are usually only allowed from November to May. Naturally all visitors are expected to pay the relevant Marine Park fee. The islands have a small ranger’s station, a restaurant and some tourist accommodation in the form of a few tents and bungalows.
There is also a beautiful waterfall on Koh Rok Nai and a great viewpoint that is about 150 m high. The viewpoint provides wonderful views of the Thai mainland and awesome panoramic views across many miles of the Andaman Sea.

Haa Island

The Koh Haa island group are about 60 km south-east of Phuket in the Koh Lanta National Park, between Phi Phi and Hin Daeng, quite close to Koh Lanta. It is one of the true treasures of the Andaman Sea and is quite famous for its abundant marine life and pristine white beaches. As a result, it is a sought after destination for both snorkelers and scuba divers.
Koh Haa translates to “Five Islands”, so as you may expect, the Koh Haa Island group consists of five island. However, some people also count one of the rocky limestone outcrops as an island, therefore saying the group consists of the main island, Koh Haa Yai, plus five smaller islands.
The largest island in the group, Koh Haa Yai, is also the most spectacular. It features two scenic rocky outcrops joined by a pure white sandy beach that is most beautiful during low tide. Koh Haa Yai and two other islands form a picturesque and protected lagoon. It has crystal clear water and the sandy bottom is only about 5 meters deep.

Maithon Island

Mai Thon Island is a relatively small but beautiful tropical island just off the southeast coast of Phuket, about a third of the distance to Phi Phi Island. At its widest point, Koh Mai Thon is about 2.5 km across. It is blessed with palm trees and pure white sandy beaches.

It is not unusual to see dolphins on the surface while travelling by boat in this area. The island itself is privately owned but boats can stop nearby for a swim or snorkel.
