Phuket is not only one of the world’s top fishing destinations, it has tropical weather and to top it all off, it also enjoys year round fishing.
High-Season Fishing
The Phuket peak tourist season coincides with the northeast monsoon season, usually running from November to April. The seas are usually calmer during this time and as a result it has become the peak fishing season for Phuket. The most sought after species are usually Black Marlin and Sailfish, as well as Yellowfin Tuna and Skipjack Tuna. Giant Trevally are also in abundance almost everywhere.
This is also a good time for bottom-fishing and closer inland, you may catch Queenfish and Barracudas.
Low-Season Fishing
From March to October (often referred to as the rainy season), the weather can be less favorable but fishing continues. You may experience stronger winds and rougher sea conditions, rain, and occasional storms. However many fish species are more active during this time, such as Mahi Mahi and Wahoo, making for a very rewarding fishing experience.

Destinations: Racha Islands by Private Fishing Boat:
The Raya Islands, also known as Racha Islands, are twin islands known for their crystal clear blue waters. They are situated about 17 km south-southwest from Phuket in the Andaman Sea. Racha Yai is closest to Phuket, whereas Racha Noi is about 10 km further south.
The island names are sometimes also written and pronounced as ‘Raya’ or ‘Racha’. Both Raya and Racha means ‘king’. The word ‘yai’ means ‘big’ while ‘noi’ is Thai for ‘small’.
The islands are famous amongst scuba divers and snorkelers alike, as well as fishermen. There is a plethora of snorkeling, diving and fishing sites area around both Racha Noi and Racha Yai islands. Some say it has some of the best fishing sites in Thailand. Underwater visibility can be as as good as 30m.
Racha Yai has a fantastic beach on its north-western side, where the sand is particularly fine in grit and pure white in color. For this reason many people compare the beach sand to soft talcum powder. Muslim fishermen and farmers are the main inhabitants of the island. However there are all levels of accommodation, from bungalows to a five star resort known as The Racha. There are also several restaurants in Sunset Bay, which is also known as Ao Tawan Tok (in Thai).
Racha Noi on the other hand is not inhabited. It has rather more rocks than beaches, which is the result of centuries of coral reef build-up. However, the water is usually crystal clear and there are numerous fishing and snorkeling/diving sites located here. Many fishermen call Racha Noi their favorite fishing spot.
