PHI PHI Island + MAITON Island or PHANG NGA Bay + MAITON Island (Tour A)

Phi Phi Islands

The Phi Phi Islands certainly have it all: a tropical climate, stunning beaches with idyllic palm trees, crystal-clear turquoise waters and beautiful rock formations. More on Phi Phi Islands below under DESTINATION/LOCATION.

Phi Phi Islands background from Wikipedia – from Wikipedia.

Phang Nga Bay

Phang Nga Bay is undeniably a captivating destination; it boasts numerous islands, each with its distinct charm and allure. In particular, its dramatic limestone cliffs, emerald-green waters and enchanting sea caves further enhances the bay’s serene beauty.

Additionally, Phang Nga Bay is home to a rich variety of marine life, including vibrant fish and unique species. Besides, the bay offers a range of activities, such as kayaking through hidden lagoons and exploring secluded beaches. Thus, it provides a memorable adventure for all who visit.

Maiton Island

Maiton Island, also known as Mai Thon Island, is a relatively small yet beautiful tropical destination, located approximately 16 km off the southeast coast of Phuket. In comparison, this distance is about a third of the way from Phuket to Phi Phi Island.

At its widest point, Koh Mai Thon spans approximately 2.5 km. Additionally, the island is adorned with palm trees and pristine white sandy beaches. Although the island itself is privately owned, boats may stop nearby for a swim or snorkel.

Furthermore, it is quite common to spot dolphins on the surface while traveling by boat in this area. Specifically, these dolphins love playing in the bow wave created by boats.

KAHUNG Beach (Tours B, C, D, E, F & G)

Kahung Beach (Coral Island)

Coral Island is a beautiful tropical destination that is relatively close to Phuket. It is located around 9 km southeast of Chalong pier and travel time by speedboat is only 15 to 20 minutes. Once you arrive, you can swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear waters. Moreover, the underwater world here is colorful and vibrant, teeming with marine life.

The island has 2 main beaches: Long Beach (which includes Kahung Beach) and a smaller beach called Banana Beach on the eastern end of the island. Kahung Beach is a great location with clear water and white sands. However there are some rocks on the beach, so we recommend you wear some footwear like sandals or flip-flops. The island boasts a restaurant/bar.

In addition to excellent swimming and snorkeling, you can also enjoy a variety of optional water activities if you choose to. For instance, Kahung Beach offers Paddle Boarding, Clear Kayaking, Banana Boating, Parasailing, Sea Walking and Scuba Diving. Thus, you can literally immerse yourself in this aquatic paradise. Furthermore, the coral reefs are filled with tropical fish. Alongside the pristine white beaches and stunning scenery, you will find this tour to be truly amazing.

For more information on Coral Island see Wikipedia and Wikitravel.

Racha Islands

Specifically, the Racha Islands, also known as the Raya Islands, are twin islands situated approximately 17 km south-southwest of Phuket in the Andaman Sea. Furthermore, Racha Yai is the closest to Phuket, whereas Racha Noi lies about 10 km further south. Thus, an idyllic escape, Racha Yai promises a day of relaxation and rejuvenation, undoubtedly one of the Andaman Sea’s most beautiful locations.

Discover why Racha Yai Island is renowned for its azure waters and pristine beaches with powdery white sands. Moreover, the island is celebrated for its lush greenery. Consequently, you can bask in the island’s tranquility while strolling along its captivating shores, all the while soaking up the breathtaking scenery. Additionally, you can immerse yourself in the island’s underwater wonderland by snorkeling in the azure waters and then sunbathe on the golden beaches.

KAHUNG Beach plus Sunset at PROMTHEP Cape & KRATING Cape (Tours D & E)

Sunset at Promthep Cape & Krating Cape

Laem Promthep (Promthep Cape) is a stunning sunset viewing spot and is one of the most photographed locations in Phuket. It is located on the southernmost tip of Phuket and offers breathtaking 180-degree views of the Andaman Sea and three small islands nearby.

‘Leam’ means cape or headland while ‘Prom’ means purity, and ‘Thep’ means God.

Laem Krating (Krating Cape) is another popular and famous sunset viewing point in the south of Phuket Island, only about 1.5 km northeast from Leam Promthep. When viewed from above, the large rock formation is shaped like a sailboat towards the apex of the cape.

From sea level on your private boat, both Pronthep Cape and Krating Cape are even more beautiful and romantic. Watch the sun set in style and comfort, while immersing yourself in the peace and tranquility of the Andaman Sea.

Phi Phi Islands

The spectacular Phi Phi Islands are a famous island group in Thailand, situated between the large island of Phuket and the Straits of Malacca coast of Thailand. They are around 40 kilometers southeast of Phuket and form part of the Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, which is home to an abundance of corals and marine life. The islands feature large limestone mountains with cliffs, caves and long white sandy beaches.
The name of the Phi Phi Islands comes from the Malay language. Phi Phi island was origianlly called “Pulau-Api-Api” which translates to “fiery island”. This name refers to the many grey mangroves which are found in abundance in on the islands. The grey mangrove trees are called Pokok Api-Api (“fiery tree”) in Malay.
The Phi Phi islands group consists of six islands. Koh Phi Phi Don is the largest and most populated island of the group. Phi Phi Le is the second largest island. Both Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le have stunning beaches which are very popular with tourists. Phi Phi Don is 9.73 square kilometers; 8 kilometers in length and 3.5 kilometers wide. Phi Phi Le is 2 kilometers in length and the two islands are about 1.5 km apart. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok and Bida Nai are not much more than large limestone rocks jutting out of the sea. The Phi Phi islands are easily reached by ferries, speedboats and long-tail boats, most often from ports in Phuket or Krabi town.
Phi Phi Don was initially populated by Thai Malay fishermen during the late-1940s and later became a coconut plantation. The resident Thai population of Phi Phi Don remains more than 80 percent Muslim. In 2018 the resident population was between 2,000 and 3,000 people.
The islands gained worldwide fame when the filming of the 2000 British-American film “The Beach” took place at Maya Bay on Ko Phi Phi Leh.
Phi Phi Le is home to the “Viking Cave” and some locals make a thriving living from harvesting edible bird’s nests. Phi Phi Leh is uninhabited and it features stunning vertical cliffs with green foliage on top and giving way to stunning small sandy beaches and idyllic turquoise sea water. On the southern side of Koh Phi Phi Le lies Loh Sama, a popular bay for snorkeling due to its calm, clear water and many beautiful corals and tropical fish.
Koh Phi Phi was devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004, when nearly the entire infrastructure on the island was destroyed. Since the re-building of Koh Phi Phi after the 2004 tsunami, numerous paved roads cover the majority of Ton Sai Bay and Loh Dalum Bay. However, all roads are for pedestrian use only and push carts are used to transport goods and luggage. The only permitted motor vehicles are official emergency services. As a result, bicycling is the most popular form of transport in Ton Sai.
Ecological Significance
The ecological significance of the Phi Phi Islands, located off the coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea, extends beyond their stunning beauty and draws attention due to their diverse ecosystems and fragile natural balance.
Marine Biodiversity
The islands harbor rich marine biodiversity with an abundance of coral reefs, various fish species and other marine life. These reefs are vital as they support the local fish population, provide protection for shorelines and contribute to the overall health of the marine environment.
Coral Reefs
The coral reefs surrounding the Phi Phi Islands are particularly significant. They serve as a habitat for numerous species of fish, invertebrates and other marine organisms. However, these reefs face threats from environmental stressors such as climate change, pollution, overfishing, and irresponsible tourism practices.
Conservation Efforts
Efforts have been made to protect and conserve the fragile ecosystems of the Phi Phi Islands. Measures include the creation of marine protected areas, restrictions on fishing practices and especially the implementation of sustainable tourism practices. Organizations and local authorities also collaborate to raise awareness about the importance of preserving these natural habitats.
Maya Bay Restoration
Maya Bay on Phi Phi Leh gained international fame after being featured in the movie “The Beach.” However, the bay faced severe environmental degradation due to excessive tourism. Thai Authorities decided to close the bay temporarily to visitors, to allow for ecological recovery. This highlights the significance of balancing tourism with conservation efforts.
Ecosystem Preservation
Naturally the coral reefs contribute massively to the overall ecological significance of the region. However, the islands’ diverse ecosystems, including mangroves, tropical forests and diverse flora and fauna also make a significant contribution. For example, Mangroves play a crucial role in stabilizing coastlines, providing nurseries for fish and protecting against erosion.
Sustainable Practices
Initiatives promoting responsible tourism, waste management as well as the reduction of single-use plastics are being encouraged across the Phi Phi Islands. These practices aim to minimize the impact of tourism on the delicate ecosystems while allowing visitors to appreciate the natural beauty of the islands.
Research and Education
Scientific research and educational programs focused on marine conservation coupled with environmental protection are conducted at Phi Phi Islands. Their main purpose is to better understand and preserve the ecological significance of the Phi Phi Islands. These efforts aim to engage both locals and tourists in sustainable practices to protect these valuable ecosystems.
In conclusion, the Phi Phi Islands’ ecological significance lies in their diverse marine life, fragile coral reefs, unique ecosystems and most importantly, ongoing conservation efforts. Balancing tourism with environmental conservation remains crucial in preserving these natural treasures for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.
