Panak Island

Koh Panak is one of the larger islands in Ao Nang Bay and is located about 10 km south of James Bond island.
The island is home to at least 11 significant caves, most of which are on the northern end of the island. Many of the caves and tunnels are interconnected. Several are also accessible by canoe from sea level and some of them lead to beautiful lagoons. The island is most popular for canoeing and cave exploration, with many coming here to swim and watch the natural wildlife.

James Bond Island

James Bond Island is likely the most popular landmark of Phang Nga Bay in Thailand. It is a unique vertical limestone cliff that rises about 20 m above the emerald green water and it became famous after it was depicted in the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun”.
This very distinctive rock formation in the shape of a nail or spike, is located about 40 meters from the shore of Khao Phing Kan island. The diameter of the formation is about about 4 meters near water level and increases to about 8 meters at the top. This rock formation or islet is known as Koh Tapu.
Khao Phing Kan or is an island in the Northwestern part of Phang Nga Bay and about 6 kilometers from the Thai mainland, amongst a group of a dozen islands. As the crow flies, it is about 48 km northeast of Patong Beach in Phuket and the island is part of the Ao Phang Nga National Park.
Khao Phing Kan translates from Thai as “hills leaning against each other”, whereas Khao Ta Pu can be literally translated as “crab’s eye hill”, and Koh Tapu can be translated as “nail” or “spike” island, referring to its distinctive upright shape.
The islands used to be a quiet indigenous area, rarely visited. However, since they featured in the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” in 1974, Khao Phing Kan and Koh Ta Pu (together or separately) have become widely known as James Bond Island and is now a very popular tourist destination.
In 1981, the island was included into the protected zone of the Ao Phang Nga Marine National Park and since 1998 tourist boats are not allowed to approach Koh Tapu, in order to protect the limestone rocks and reduce erosion.

Panyee Islands

Koh Panyee, also known as Ko Panyi, is a Muslim fishing village in Phang Nga province, originally built on stilts by nomadic fishermen from Java Island in Indonesia around the end of the 18th century. The population consists of about 360 families or 1,600 people.
The village has a Muslim school for boys and girls, which is usually only attended in the mornings. The island also has a mosque and a market that sells basic amenities like medicine, clothes and toiletries.
Without a doubt the most famous feature of the village is its floating football pitch. Children from the village were inspired by the 1986 FIFA World Cup and then decided to build their own football field, in spoite of living on a floating village on the sea. They used recycled scraps of wood and fishing rafts to construct the original football pitch. Since then a new and improved football pitch been, however the original wooden pitch remains popular with tourists.
As tourism increased, the number of modern amenities increased accordingly; as a reult, the island now has several seafood restaurants and various stalls selling souvenirs. The village featured as a regular stop-over in the 19th season of the US reality TV show “The Amazing Race”, which was filmed in 2011.
In spite of the increase in tourism to the village, daily life on Koh Panyee remains based around the sea and fishing industry, since most tourists visit during the dry high season.

Hong Islands

Koh Hong is one of the shining jewels in the Krabi region. It is located in Thanbok Khoranee National Park. It is about 6 km west of the Krabi coast in the Thai province of Phang Nga, and about 41 km northeast from the ‘Visit Panwa’ pier in Phuket. The island group consists of four idyllic tropical islands with beautiful secluded beaches, sea caves, coral reefs and island lagoons. The island’s main feature is a limestone mountain. The islands received its name from the high vertical cliffs that surround a large lagoon, making it look like the walls of a room (‘Hong’ in Thai means ‘room’). It has a one-way entrance that is about 10 meters wide and it can be entered by boat or kayak. The shallow water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming.
Hong Island is also one of the best canoeing spots in Phang-Nga Bay. At least one sea level cave will allow you to enter a beautiful lagoon. There are also several smaller limestone islands close to Koh Hong. These are typically covered in lush vegetation and the narrow passages between the islands make it ideal for exploring by canoe.
The main atoll is uninhabited and there are two connected curved sandy bays which looks like the wings of a flying bird from overhead. At one end of the beach, there is a twisting man-made stairway with 419 stairs. The panoramic view it provides from the top is well worth the climb. Not only can you see the beautiful beach of Koh Hong below, but you will also have the most breathtaking views of the Krabi archipelago and the waters and coastline of the Phang Nga province.
On the beach of Hong island you will find a visitor center, welfare shop and restrooms. The islands are also home to many vibrant species of tropical birds, monitor lizards and northern white-cheeked gibbon monkeys. Koh Hong islands indeed have something special for every traveler. Sunbathe on the soft white sandy beaches of the birdwing shaped twin bays on the east side of the main island. Or enjoy the spectacular views of the bay with its crystal clear water. Or snorkel to appreciate the spectacular underwater scenery and fish life.

Yao Islands

Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai are two large islands in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, halfway between Phuket and Krabi, about 50 km from either, or 45 minutes east of Phuket by speedboat.
Koh Yao Yai is the larger of the two big islands in the Koh Yao Archipelago. Koh Yao Yai means ‘big long island’. The other main island of the group is Koh Yao Noi (‘little long island’), just to the north of Koh Yao Yai and separated from it by a narrow sound.
Koh Yao Yai is characterized by sandy shores, mangroves, rubber plantations and fishing villages. Laem Had Beach has a stunning sand bank that stretches out hundreds of meters like a dragons back.
Koh Yao Noi is still largely unspoiled and untouched. The island is covered in lush tropical foliage. Koh Yao Noi is peaceful, quiet and tranquil; the perfect place to get away from the crowds.
